The short answer: more wavelengths are not always better

When salons compare four-color, seven-color, and professional LED/PDT systems, the real question is not simply how many colors are available. Peak wavelength accuracy, illumination uniformity, treatment area, power control, cooling, and workflow all affect the service experience.

Think of wavelength as the working range of light. Different ranges interact with the skin in different ways, and every device should be used with its own recommended time, distance, and protection. This article is for equipment education and service communication, not medical diagnosis or treatment.

How should common wavelengths be understood?

Around 415nm: the blue-light direction

Blue light is commonly discussed in care programs for oil-prone or visibly unsettled skin. Because it is a shorter wavelength with a strong visual impression, eye protection and client comfort should be part of the operating routine.

Around 590nm: the amber-light direction

Amber light is often positioned in soothing, brightening, and tone-management conversations. Use careful language such as “supportive care” and “improving the appearance of tone” rather than presenting one wavelength as a universal solution.

630–660nm: the red-light direction

Red light is widely used in beauty light-care programs for everyday soothing and skin-condition maintenance. For large treatment areas, uniform output, LED life, and panel cooling are usually more important than simply adding more colors.

810–850nm: near-infrared energy management

Near-infrared settings require extra care in communication. Follow the device manual for time, distance, and power, and keep screening, eye protection, and treatment records in place.

Four checks before choosing a salon system

Check the wavelength label: confirm the peak wavelength and tolerance are clearly documented.
Check illumination uniformity: large differences between the center and edge of a panel can affect consistency.
Check the operating loop: look for timing, intensity, cooling, and cleaning guidance.
Check the service language: position light therapy inside a complete care program, not as a single guaranteed promise.

A good light-therapy program is not about having the most lamps. It connects the goal, wavelength, parameters, workflow, and follow-up record.

A simple script for salon teams

You can say: “This service uses selected LED wavelengths together with cleansing, soothing, and hydration steps. The time and intensity are adjusted according to the device guidance and today’s skin condition.”

For an upgrade, compare a four-color standard system, a seven-color program system, or a screen-controlled professional model based on floor area, ticket size, and operator experience.
